About Skar Proto
Skar Proto is a community-first social platform built for students, creators, educators, and event organisers across India. We combine topic-based communities, real-time events, live video calling, and peer-to-peer networking into a single mobile and web experience.
Our platform is available as an Android app (Skar Proto on Google Play) and a Progressive Web App (PWA) accessible at skar-proto.onrender.com.
Products & Services
Topic Communities
Users create or follow Topics — interest-based community channels where they share posts, images, polls, and YouTube links. Each topic has a leaderboard, a trophy system, and role-based hierarchy for leaders and organisers.
Events
Any user can create events linked to topics. Events appear in a personalised upcoming-events feed and have a dedicated video call room that auto-activates at the event time. Event creators invite topic followers automatically via push notifications.
Real-Time Chat & Video Calling
Every topic has a live group chat room powered by Django Channels (WebSocket). Users can also initiate private 1-to-1 chats and video calls (WebRTC). Random-match video calling is available for users who share topic interests.
Learning & Courses (SkarVersity)
Educators and subject-matter experts can host courses and workshops as topic-based communities. Students enrol, follow the topic, attend live events (lectures), and pay teachers directly through the platform's integrated payment gateway.
Promotions & Advertising
Businesses and creators can run promotion campaigns on the platform. Advertisers pay to display promoted content across topic feeds. We also offer a peer-driven promotion model where users earn rewards for spreading content to their networks.
Peer-to-Peer Transfers
Friends can split event costs, collect contributions for group activities, or transfer money to each other directly within the app using our payment infrastructure.
How the Platform Operates
- Sign up — users authenticate via Google OAuth, set a unique user ID, choose their language and interests.
- Discover & follow topics — a personalised feed of posts, events, and chats is built from followed topics and language preferences.
- Engage — users post content, comment, react, join live chats, attend or create events, and call each other.
- Lead — high-engagement users earn roles (Leader, Organiser, etc.) that give them moderation and scheduling authority within a topic.
- Monetise — educators charge students, advertisers pay for campaign slots, and peer transfers flow between users.
